If you’ve started noticing more hair in your brush, in the shower or around the bathroom floor, it’s very easy to head straight for a product labelled “anti-hair fall” and hope for the best. But before changing your entire haircare routine, it helps to understand what you’re seeing.
Hair fall, thinning and breakage can look similar when you’re finding more hair than usual, but they aren’t necessarily the same thing. There are also many reasons your hair might change over time, which means the right next step isn’t always a new shampoo.
At Blonde Poetry, we’d rather help you understand what may be happening with your hair, recommend professional haircare products where it’s appropriate - and be honest when we think your concerns need to go beyond the salon.
Is your hair shedding or breaking?
This is a useful place to start because hair coming away from the root is different from hair breaking somewhere along the strand.
If you’re noticing lots of shorter pieces, snapping through the lengths or increasingly fragile ends, breakage may be contributing to the amount of hair you’re seeing. Colour services, heat styling, mechanical stress and the overall condition of your hair can all be part of that conversation, and these are things your stylist can assess when looking at your hair.
Shedding from the root is different. Some shedding is a normal part of the hair growth cycle, but if you’ve noticed a significant change in how much hair you’re losing, your ponytail feels noticeably smaller, your part is becoming wider or the change has been sudden or persistent, it’s worth taking seriously.
Your hairdresser may be one of the first people to notice that something has changed, particularly if we’ve been looking after your hair for a long time.

Start by looking a little closer
One of the tools we have available at Blonde Poetry is K-SCAN by Kérastase, an in-salon scalp and hair analysis performed by trained professionals.
K-SCAN uses specialised lighting and imaging technology to give us a much closer look at the scalp and hair than we can see with the naked eye. It can help us better understand visible scalp conditions and support more personalised recommendations for your in-salon treatments and home haircare.
For someone who has noticed a change in their scalp or hair and isn’t sure where to start, this can be a useful part of the conversation. It doesn’t replace medical assessment and it isn’t there to diagnose a health condition, but it gives your stylist more information about what we can see and what your hair and scalp may need from a professional haircare perspective.

Can a shampoo stop hair fall?
This is where we think it’s important to keep expectations realistic. A shampoo can be an important part of caring for weakened hair and maintaining a healthy scalp, but it can’t address every reason someone may be experiencing increased shedding or thinning.
If the issue is primarily breakage, choosing products designed to strengthen weakened hair and reduce breakage can make sense. If you have a scalp concern, a routine suited to that particular concern may help improve the condition of your scalp.
If the underlying reason for your hair shedding is medical, hormonal, nutritional or related to something else happening within your body, however, changing your shampoo isn’t necessarily going to solve it. That’s when the right recommendation may be to speak to your GP or another appropriately qualified health professional rather than continuing to buy different products hoping one will fix the problem.
What might we recommend for weakened hair prone to breakage?
One of the ranges we regularly recommend at Blonde Poetry for weakened hair prone to falling due to breakage is Kérastase Genesis.
The important part here is due to breakage. Genesis isn’t something we want to position as a cure for hair loss. It’s a professional haircare range designed to support weakened hair, reduce breakage and help improve the condition and resilience of the hair fibre.
The right Genesis routine will depend on your hair. Bain Hydra-Fortifiant is the lighter cleansing option for fine to normal weakened hair, while Bain Nutri-Fortifiant provides a more nourishing cleanse for thicker or drier weakened hair. From there, your routine might include a fortifying conditioner or mask, heat protection and the Anti Hair-Fall Fortifying Serum, depending on what your hair needs.
If you want a complete routine rather than choosing individual products, we also stock the Kérastase Genesis Anti Hair-Fall for Fine Hair Bundle, which combines Bain Hydra-Fortifiant Shampoo, Fondant Renforçateur Conditioner, Défense Thermique and the Anti Hair-Fall Fortifying Serum.
This is also why we don’t think professional product recommendations should feel like a sales pitch. Two people can both tell us their hair is “falling out” and need completely different advice. Looking at the hair first gives us a much better chance of recommending something useful rather than simply sending everyone home with the same bottle.
What about thinning hair?
Hair that feels less dense isn’t necessarily the same as hair that is breaking, which is another reason it helps to talk about what you’ve noticed rather than trying to diagnose the problem yourself.
Blonde Poetry also stocks Kérastase Genesis Homme Bain de Masse Épaississant, a thickening shampoo designed for men with weakened hair prone to thinning. Its role is to cleanse while supporting the appearance of volume, body and fuller-looking hair; again, that’s different from claiming that a shampoo can treat the underlying cause of hair loss.
If density is changing significantly, though, we’d still encourage you to investigate why rather than relying on cosmetic fullness alone.
Sometimes the best recommendation isn’t a product
If your hair is suddenly shedding significantly more than usual, you’re losing hair in patches, your part or hairline is noticeably changing, your scalp is sore or inflamed, or you simply feel that something isn’t right, please speak to your GP or an appropriately qualified health professional.
There can be many reasons for changes in hair growth and shedding, and some of them need to be investigated medically. A stylist can look at your hair and scalp, talk about what we’re seeing, adjust the services we perform where appropriate and help you choose professional homecare, but we will always tell you if you need to consult your healthcare professional.

Talk to your stylist
If you’ve noticed that your hair feels different, tell us. You don’t need to feel embarrassed about thinning, shedding, scalp changes or breakage, and you certainly don’t need to wait until it becomes severe before mentioning it.
If we’ve looked after your hair for a while, we may also have the benefit of knowing what your hair normally looks and feels like. We can assess its current condition, talk through your colour and styling routine, look more closely at your scalp with K-SCAN where appropriate and help you work out whether a change to your professional haircare routine may be useful.
Sometimes that might mean recommending Kérastase Genesis or another professional treatment. Sometimes it might mean changing the way you’re caring for or styling your hair. And sometimes the most responsible recommendation we can make is to speak to your doctor.
There isn’t one bottle that answers every hair-fall concern, which is why we’d always rather start with the person, and the hair, before we start with the product.
